Dr. Muhammad Ali Shah laid to rest

KARACHI: Admirers, sports lovers and family firends turned up in large number to attend burial of Pakistan's legendary

muhammadKARACHI: Admirers, sports lovers and family firends turned up in large number to attend burial of Pakistan's legendary sports organizer and adminstrator Dr. Syed Muhammad Ali Shah who was laid to rest at Paposhnagar graveyard here on Thursday afternoon.

 

Dr. Shah who was advisor to Chief Minister Sindh had died in Houston (USA) on Monday after he suffered heart-attack while undergoing chemotherapy for blood cancer.

 

His funeral prayer was offered at Asghar Ali Shah Stadium named after his father. Maulana Ehtram- ul-Haq Thanvi led the prayers.

 

Among sportsmen who attended the funeral included former World squash champion Jahangir Khan, former Pakistan cricket captains, Wasim Bari, Javed Miandad, Moin Khan, Chief Selector Iqbal Qasim, former Test cricketers Salahuddin Ahmed, Sadiq Muhammad, Salim Yousuf, Jalauddin, former Pakistan cricket manager and international Abdul Raqeeb, former Pakistan hockey captain Islahuddin Siddiqui, Olympians Wasim Feroze, Sameer Hussain, KCCA President and Secretary Syed Sirjul Islam, Ejaz Faruqi and others.

 

Federal Ministers Dr. Farooq Sattar and Babar Ghori were prominent among the MQM leaders besides a large number of Sindh Ministers, bureaucrats, political leaders. sportsmen, sports organizers, well wishers, friends and relatives attended the funeral at Pasposhnagar graveyard.

 

The soyem and Qurwan Khawani of Dr.Shah will be held on Saturday after Zuhur at his residence F-97, Block-F, North Nazimabad.

 

The body of Dr. Muhammad was flown from Houston this morning via Dubai. His wife Asma Shah, sons Dr. Junaid Ali Shah and Dr. Imran Ali Shah accompanied his body.

 

Besides being former Sindh Sports Minister, Dr.Shah was the President of Sindh Olympic Assocuiation, ex-member governing body Pakistan Cricket Board, KCCA President, and Chef de Mission of Pakistan contingent during 2010 Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi.
