ISLAMABAD: Counsel for Federation on Friday apprised the Supreme Court that 28 more contractual officers whose services were rehired after attaining ages of superannuation would be terminated after an approval by the Prime Minister.
Abdul Hafeez Pirzada, the senior counsel along with Abdu Rauf Chaudhry secretary Establishment Division told a Six member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, on the related issue of contractual employees in the main Hajj arrangements corruption case.
He said that a five member committee had finalized its recommendations over the fate of these government employees and submitted it to the Prime Minister.
However, the bench directed the five-member committee to continue its task of submitting recommendations to the competent authority.
It also directed Advocate General Balochistan Amanullah Kanrani to submit details of contractual employees after an inquiry revealed that such people had been working in the province.
The bench objected to an earlier stance taken by the provincial top government's lawyer. Pirzada said that the Prime Minister had not overruled a single recommendation of the Committee over the issue of relieving such officers.
The bench was told that Waseem Ahmed, DG FIA, had resigned from his post and his resignation was accepted by the Prime Minister with immediate effect.
The Chief Justice told Establishment Secretary that he should be thankful to former DG for quitting the post as he had not done anything against him.
He said that apex Court's objective was to maintain transparency in awarding jobs.
"For how long we will continue with the policy of ad-hocism. People are frustrated as they are not getting jobs. Create opportunities for them and visit universities for talent hunt," he added.
He further advised that Federal Service Commission headed by a competent man should be involved in the process.
The Chief Justice further suggested that they could bring people from provinces on deputation with attractive incentives.
Pirzada told that 50 persons recommended by the FPSC had been accommodated against the posts of section officers.
He said that the issue was a complicated one and requested the bench not to overburden it with such issues.
Abdul Rauf Chaudhry, secretary Establishment division, said that 142 deputy secretaries had been working as section officers due to shortage of experienced people.
However, 150 permanent vacancies of section officers would be filled next year, he added. The bench adjourning further hearing till April 22 directed the five-member committee to accomplish its assigned task except the issue of section officers.
