ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan on Friday apprised the Upper House of Parliament about foreign visits undertaken by the persons holding the portfolio of the Federal Information Minister since 2008.
Replying to a question during the question-hour, she said in 2008, the then information minister undertook first visit to India to participate in the funeral of Indian Rajya Saba Member, Nirmala Deshpande.
The second visit was undertaken to the United Kingdom during November 25, 2008 to November 29 on the invitation of British Home Secretary to study the functioning of Strategic Counter Terrorism Communication Centers, the minister said.
Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan said the third tour was of Japan and fourth to Libya, United State and Dubai being member of the President's entourage in 2009.
She said the fifth visit of the information minister was of United Kingdom from July 21, 2010 to July 24 aimed at discussing and negotiating a Memorandum of Understanding between Research, Information and Communication Unit of the British Home Office and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to improve, promote and strengthen the capacity for counter terrorism outreach and communication of the ministry.
The sixth visit of the United Kingdom being member of the President's entourage from July 31, 2010 to August, 10 while the seventh tour of the information minister was undertaken to the United States of America from October 20, 2010 to October 23 to participate in the Pak-US Sectoral Dialogue meetings.
