business 400ISLAMABAD: Business community, exporters as well as importers were educated and provided initial training about the Web-Based One Custom System (WeBOC) during a session held at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) here.

 

Deputy Collector Customs, Faiz Ali chaired the session and explained the important features of the WeBOC including increase customs efficiency and efficient deployment of resources, minimize clearance time at port, minimizing customs processing time, paperless and single window customs operations, reduced cost of doing business and less clearing/handling charges.

 

He informed the businessmen about the efficiency of the system for maintaining better cash flows, transparency and integrity, correct revenue realization, cargo information, on-line manifest filing and many other features.

 

He said the customs department is striving to make WeBOC more familiar with the stakeholders and customs officials are always available to resolve their problems related to the system as custom department was doing its best to make this system state-of-the-art in real terms.

 

Deputy Collector Customs said that the WeBoc system would not only reduce drastically the time for clearance of goods but would also work in accordance with latest SROs and international price mechanism.

 

Speaking on the occasion, President ICCI, Zafar Bakhtawari appreciated Deputy Collector Customs for bringing in the technologically advanced systems for the benefit of business community.

 

Bakhtawari said that Custom Department should establish facilitation desks for achieving better results and give massive awareness to the businessmen.

 

He said that Custom department should also promote industrialization by adopting business friendly approach towards business community and industrialists.

 

He said that local importers and exporters have some reservations about custom procedures which could be lessen by easing these regulations and procedures and eliminating corruption to make the system more efficient and well-organized.

 

Bakhtawari said that Pakistan Customs has been playing an important role in smooth conduct of cross-border trade, therefore it is imperative that the department should also improve transparency in its operation and reduce the processing time of import and export documents as per international standard.
