MADRID: The Spanish unit of British bank Barclays is to undertake two capital hikes totalling 1.3 billion euros ($1.9 billion), it said in a statement released on the Spanish stock exchange.
A spokesperson for Barclays Spain said the parent company would subscribe to the entire increase.
Spain's Central Bank said in March that among a number of lenders Barclays Spain did not meet new capital requirements, falling short by 552 million euros. Barclays said at the time that it would be in compliance by the September deadline.
