ZURICH: The Swiss franc ticked up against the dollar on Thursday, tracking the euro and pulling off the previous session's 9-day trough, with investors prepared to take some risky bets.
"Light gains for euro/dollar," said Informa Global Markets analyst Tony Nyman. "Risk friendly climate, but all very limited activity."
Asian shares inched up Thursday as signs of recovery in China and the United States eased fears of deteriorating global growth, though generally weak corporate earnings continued to make investors wary. European bourses were seen carve out slight gains.
The franc has often moved in tandem with the euro against the dollar after Switzerland's central bank set a cap of 1.20 per euro on the safe-haven unit a year ago, to lessen the risk of deflation and a recession.
An easing of the tensions in the euro zone following the European Central Bank's bond-buying announcement in September has allowed the franc to pull off the 1.20 intervention mark towards 1.21 per euro.
The franc rose 0.2 percent against the dollar to trade at 0.9300 by 0611 GMT compared to the New York close.
The franc was flat against the euro at 1.2098.
