   ISLAMABAD: The Production of Air-conditioners and refrigerators increased by 5.39 percent and 8.09 percent respectively during the first ten months of the ongoing fiscal year (2011-12) as compared to the corresponding period of last year.

As many as 180,778 air-conditioners were produced during July-April (2011-12) against the production of 171,535 units during July-April (2010-11), according to the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

Similarly, the production of refrigerators increased from 777,803 units last year to 840,751 units during the ongoing fiscal year, showing 8.09 percent increased.

However, during the period under review, the production of deep-freezers decreased by 44.34 percent by going down from the output of 75,303 units last year to 41,912 units.

During the month of April 2012, the production of air-conditioners increased by 10.49 percent when compared to the production of the same month of the last year.

The production of air-conditioners during April 2012 was recorded at 32,133 units against the production of 29,082 units during April 2011.

The production of refrigerators increased from 87,567 units during April 2011 to 103,605 units during April 2012, showing surged of 18.32 percent in production.

The output of deep-freezers, however decreased by 16.75 percent by falling from the production of 7,923 units during April 2011 to the production of 6,596 units during April 2012, the PBS data revealed.

It is pertinent to mention here that despite energy crisis and other related challenges, the country's Large Scale Manufacturing (LSM) witnessed growth of 1.02 percent during the first ten months of the ongoing fiscal year.

The provisional Quantum Index Numbers (QIM) of Large Scale Manufacturing Industries was recorded at 112.71 points during July-April (2011-12) against 111.58 points during July-April (2010-11).

The highest growth of 0.98 percent was witnessed in the indices of Ministry of Industries that increased from 111.14 during last year to 112.70 during the ongoing year.

Similarly, the indices of Provincial Bureaus of Statistics increased from 122.89 points last year to 125.03 points this year, showing an increase of 0.42 percent.

However, the indices of Oil Companies Advisory Committee witnessed negative growth of 0.39 percent as it declined from 83.48 points last year to 77.89 points this year, the data revealed.
