Faisalabad city sans of basic civic amenities: FCCI chief

Revenue generating city of Faisalabad is deprived of basic civic amenities while dilapidated roads and dysfunctional traffic signals are further complicating the traffic related problems, said Rana Sikandar-e-Azam Khan President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI).

Addressing the business community of Faisalabad, he said that Faisalabad was the third largest city of Pakistan. "It was second in revenue generation", he said and added that its inhabitants are also paying their tax liabilities but they are facing multiple civic problems. He said that the main road artery, i.e, Canal Road and other main roads are facing continues process of wear and tear and nobody is paying any attention for its repair and maintenance. "A small ditch appeared in the road play a major role in traffic incidents", he remarked and said that generally the departments concerned term their poor performance to paucity of funds.

Similarly most of traffic signals have become dysfunctional and nobody is ready to repair these. This situation has prompted traffic jams in almost all important road crossings which also result into fatal as well as non-fatal accidents.

He mentioned service Road along Canal Road and told that it is also facing negligence of concerned departments. He further said that many parts of this road were submerged in rain water which will certainly start its erosion. He told that a sizeable width of green belt along this service road is also available which should be used to contain rain water which will ultimately seep in to refurbish our underground water reservoirs. He said that this green belt is abused by the local shopkeepers in connivance with the concerned government departments. The level of green belt has been raised and it has become unable to contain rain water which spills over the road and starts its erosion. He said that administration should immediately take care of this situation and make green belt at least one foot lower than the level of road with extensive tree pollution.
