BMP's Anjum Nisar elected FPCCI president

After six years, the candidate of Businessmen Panel (BMP), Anjum Nisar won the seat of President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) for the year 2020.

After a tough contest between Businessmen Panel (BMP) led by Anjum Nisar and United Business Group (UBG) led by Iftikhar Ali Malik and S M Muneer, candidates of UBG and BMP got elected on different seats in the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry annual elections held on Friday (Dec 27).

According to unofficial results, BMP candidate Anjum Nisar got 186 votes and was declared president whereas his opponent UBG candidate Dr Nouman Idris Butt secured 166 votes.

The result of senior vice president's seat has been withheld because four votes were sealed after both candidates Muhammad Hanif Gohar of UBG and Asim Ghani Usman of BMP got equal number of votes, ie, 172. Out of total 11 vice presidents' seats, BMG got 7 while UBG bagged 4 seats.

On the Sindh seat of vice president, Abdul Khaliq Khan (UBG) got 6 votes while Abdul Qayoom Qureshi of BMP secured 11 votes. On the Punjab seat of vice president, Zahid Iqbal of UBG got 33 votes while Malik Muhammad Sarfaraz Nazan Awan (BMP) bagged 7 votes.

On Khyber Pakhtunkhwa seat of vice president, Adnan Ali of UBG secured 8 votes while Qaiser Khan of BMP got 16 votes. On Balochistan seat of vice president, BMP candidate Juma Khan was declared elected.

On the seat for vice president of small chambers, UBG candidate Nadeem Sheikh was declared elected. On four seats of vice presidents, three candidates of BMP got elected, ie, Khurram Ijaz, Sultan Rehman and Dr Arshad while Zubair Baweja of UBG won one seat.
