SHANGHAI: Chinese shares were down 0.53 percent in morning trade Wednesday on worries over the slowing domestic economy and Europe's debt crisis, dealers said.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A and B shares, was down 12.67 points at 2,397.77.
Property firms led the losers after comments by Shanghai's communist party chief Yu Zhengsheng that China's commercial capital will not ease limits aimed at controlling the city's housing prices in the near future.
