People to reject those showing disrespect to their mandate: PM

Published Updated

yousufMULTAN: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Sunday that people should reject those who show disrespect to their mandate and the parliament.

Addressing a public meeting at a luncheon ceremony hosted in his honour by MPA Dr. Akhtar Malik at Seetal Mari, he said that awareness level among the people was high adding that he cannot say anything except that those who disrespect the public awareness would face rejection by the 180 million people of the country.

PM Gilani said that people have confidence in the parliament, their representatives, and record vote turnout in the by-polls was a testimony to this fact.

The PPP was committed to protect the rights of people and fulfil all the welfare and development-oriented promises it had made with the people, Gilani said.

He said that no one can match the enthusiasm of PPP-led government as it had so far exhibited in upgrading infrastructure across Pakistan, and introducing public welfare projects.

"We do what we say," PM added.

The prime minister said that the party was committed to establish Seraiki province. He rejected Mian Nawaz Sharif's proposal regarding administrative units and added that people of this area want nothing less than a Seraiki province to have their rights protected and to be able to take decisions on their own.

PM Gilani said that people do not want a chief commissioner deputed to look after this area as an administrative unit. Backwardness of this area would end only with the formation of a Seraiki province.

Giving facts from history, the PM said that Multan was a province as part of the Sindh during the reign of Mughal emperors Shah Jahan and Aurangzeb.

He said that people of this area should beware of those who want to usurp their rights.
