LAHORE: PPP central Secretary Information, Qamar Zaman Kaira said on Friday that Senate poll would help strengthen democracy in the country.
"Holding successful elections have frustrated forces lurking to ambush democracy," he said.
Talking to reporters outside the Punjab Assembly, he said the Pakistan People Party had fulfilled its another promise and it was an encouraging day for democracy-loving forces.
The PPP leadership believed in serving the masses that was why it had taken historic decisions at par with other nations, he added.
He said Asif Ali Zardari surrendered his powers to the prime minister while powers of the centre were devolved to the provinces.
On a question, he said it was the PPP which under the National Finance Award (NFC) had transfered 57.5 per cent of total revenue to the provinces.
The present assemblies, he said, faced no threat and would accomplish their five years term. He said the PPP fully toed the Charter of Democracy (CoD) while the PML-N did not.
He said the Punjab government influenced opposition members to change their loyalties but the Punjab government was surviving due to the PPP in the province.
He said political parties had learnt a lot and now they were waging efforts to save democracy.
