The Indian government has decided to deploy women commandoes in occupied Kashmir to 'tackle stone pelting incidents in the valley'. According to Times of India, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has prepared a team of lady commandos to deal with protesters.
The female commandos, according to Indian wire service ANI, have been given rigorous training by the CRPF forces. During their training, the women were blindfolded to deal with night-time deployment and also taught to repair weapons in under a minute in case of any malfunction.
India says this is not the first time that women have been inducted into security forces to handle crises. India's paramilitary forces already have women in combat roles. Women from Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were also deployed to fight Maoists in 2016.
Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat recently was quoted by the Indian media as saying that it was the need of the hour to induct women in combat roles where they would fight enemies alongside the men.
According to Indian forces claims, there has been a rapid increase in stone-pelting incidents over the last few years.
