The Customs Appraisement-South has collected Customs duty of Rs 454 billion during FY 2017-18, showing 21 percent growth as compared to Rs 377 billion collection made during last year. According to details, overall revenue collection of duties and taxes during the outgoing fiscal year made by the Customs Appraisement, South stood at Rs 1239 billion, reflecting 17% growth as against the collection of Rs 1060 billion made during 2016-17.
During last three financial years, the collectorate has witnessed consistently high growth in all duties and taxes from Rs 730 billion in FY 2014-15 to Rs 1239 billion in FY 2017-18, which is now about one third of FBR's total collection.
This unprecedented robust growth in collection of revenue over the last three years has been made possible by continued diligence, keen monitoring and meticulous planning of the operational leadership which intensively focused on institutionalized improvement of systems and procedures to facilitate the genuine trade and discourage the collusive evasion of revenue.
Throughout this period, strenuous efforts were made to bring more transparency and efficiency in the system of import cargo clearance by enhanced coverage of automation and close monitoring of the working of various sections of the Collectorates.
Abdul Rashid Sheikh, Chief Collector Appraisement, South has lauded the efforts of the customs officers and staff and has attributed the sterling success to their teamwork and dedication. He expressed his deep gratitude to Muhammad Zahid. Member Customs FBR for his unswerving support, and also appreciated the continued assistance rendered by the Directorates General of Reform & Automation, Valuation and Post Clearance Audit.
Stressing the need for further improvement, he expressed the hope that the moment generated shall be maintained in the coming fiscal year.
