Inspector General National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) Amjad Javed Saleemi has taken notice of firing at a bus and directed for transparent inquiry into the matter. According to the NH&MP spokesperson, information was received from Customs Intelligence Directorate on Tuesday last at 1250 hours that valuable non-customs paid items were being smuggled from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Punjab by motorway.
On receiving this information, the officers of NH&MP stopped the bus (LES-09) at Islamabad Toll Plaza. According to the statement of those officers who stopped the bus, the persons travelling in the said bus were loaded with sticks and ammunition. They showed resistance against the motorway police, started aerial firing and succeeded to flee along with the bus.
The officers of Motorway Police chased the bus and due to exchange of firing, Abdur Rehman got injured who was immediately shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) where his condition was out of danger. An FIR of the incident has been registered with Police Station Naseerabad. Both the relevant patrolling officers have been suspended.
