While former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's statement regarding 2008 Mumbai attacks has caused a country-wide uproar, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said on Monday that he has not unfolded any new thing rather he has said what in the best interest of the country and nation.
Talking to the media on Monday, Rana said Nawaz Sharif has decided to speak the truth from now onwards. He said, "Those filing treason cases have found solace at traitors' places." He said the Punjab chief minister has not dispelled Nawaz Sharif's statement." He added that the state of Pakistan and all its institutions stand together in the fight against terrorism. "We strongly believe that interests of Pakistan are supreme to all personal and political interests and that there can and shall never be any compromise on any national interest," he said.
Rana further said the country cannot function with deceits and lies. "The then interior minister Rehman Malik had made same remarks following 26/11 Mumbai attacks and confessed to nabbing seven people in link with Mumbai attacks. Mahmood Ali Durrani had even named the organization," he asserted.
Rana claimed that conspiracies were being hatched for plummeting Nawaz Sharif's popularity among masses. He made it clear that reputation of PML-N's supreme leader couldn't be tarnished with such lame tactics. The popularity of Nawaz Sharif is increasing and the people are talking about his narrative, he said.
Taking a jibe at former dictator, Rana taunted that Sharif was standing with the country while Pervez Musharraf had absconded abroad.
He also raised questions over the NAB inquiry pertaining to baseless allegations. He said such tactics would never be helpful for those against Nawaz Sharif.
Meanwhile, MMA Chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman while talking to the media in Lahore said, "Nawaz's statement should be investigated seriously as he has served as country's prime minister three times."
He further said sensitive issues should not be discussed. "There are some issues which, if commented on, will be harmful for the nation," he added.
Pakistan People's Party leader Qamar Zaman Kaira also criticised the former premier's remarks.
"Such statements ruin the international image of Pakistan," he said. "Nawaz had earlier said that he is competing with 'aliens' and not political parties as he (Nawaz) wants to go against institutions while his brother wants to work with them." Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry remarked that "India is using Nawaz's statement to strengthen its case. Nawaz Sharif's statements have brought harm to the country's institutions."
He said, "Nawaz used the Indian gun to initiate firing on Pakistan." All political parties should unite to condemn Nawaz's statements, he asserted. Fawad said, "Nawaz considers himself above the state and institutions which is quite unfortunate."
