Punjab Shehr-e-Khamoshan Authority (PSKA) has made the model graveyard (Shehr-e-Khamoshan) operational at Satiana Road near Adda Khanuana on the 92 Kanal land which is the third project completed by the PSKA. This project of model graveyard has been completed at a cost of Rs 1.10 billions including the price of precious land and the space would be available for approximately 7,000 graves in this model graveyard.
A prayer ceremony was held at the site for the opening of the graveyard services to the general public which was attended by the Minister for Law & Parliamentary Affairs Rana Sanaullah Khan, Director General Strategic Reforms Unit Salman Sufi, and Deputy Commissioner Salman Ghani along with other notable representatives.
State Minister for Textile Haji Muhammad Akram Ansari, parliament members Mian Abdul Manan, Mian Farooq, Nawaz Malik, Sh. Ejaz Ahmad, Faqir Hussain Dogar, Haji Khalid Saeed, Haji Ilyas Ansari, Mayor MCF Muhammad Razaq Malik, Chairman District Council Ch. Zahid Nazir and other representatives of local govt bodies were also present on the occasion.
A number of services including hearse, Janazgah, ghusal services, burial kit, mortuary and other necessary for the burial have been provided in this model graveyard and the official helpline number 0300-3331483 would be available to utilize these services or to get any information regarding the burial of dead bodies in model graveyard.
Expressing his views on the occasion Law Minister Rana Sanaullah khan said that under the dynamic leadership of CM Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, the Punjab government not only completed mega projects of construction of Expressways, Underpasses, Flyovers and other development projects of public welfare but also conceived the idea of model graveyard to provide this social necessity to the public for the burial of dead bodies with dignified and honourable manner.
He informed that each and every citizen could have this facility without any discrimination and the deserving people would be provided these burial facilities without any cost and the Punjab govt would bear their expenditures in case of burial of dead bodies of their relatives. He appreciated the strenuous efforts of PSKA for completing the model graveyard for the welfare of the masses.
He also lauded the struggle of Deputy Commissioner Salman Ghani for successful completion of this project through regular monitoring. Director General PSKA Salman Sufi, while giving the briefing about the model graveyard, informed the Shehr-e-Khamoshan Authority Act promulgated on 24th May 2017 for the construction of such model graveyards across Punjab. He said initiative of model graveyards was conceived by the Strategic Reforms Unit in 2015 to revamp the conditions of graveyards across the province.
The first Shehr-e-Khamoshan graveyard became operational in Lahore in June 2017. The second graveyard became operational in Sargodha in March 2018. More than 100 burials have been carried out at these graveyards out of which a significant number consists of free of cost burials.
The DG said the Authority had also helped in revamping the Bahishti and 'Chota' Graveyards in Faisalabad by not only constructing a Janazgah but it is also undertaking improved maintenance of these graveyards apart from construction of model graveyard at Satiana Road. He informed that the plant had been imported from the German for the mortuary of graveyard which has the capacity for preserving of the 30 dead bodies.
