Floodgates of criticism opened against Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) at Liaquatabad public meeting when Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) resorted bashing of ruling party of Sindh by labeling it anti-country party which always worked against the national interests and declared that MQM could not be wiped out through strong-arm tactics
MQM leadership left no stone unturned to criticize PPP for indulging in policies which hurt interests of Urban Sindh and said this party has track record of corruption rather than introducing good governance in the province when it appeared together at the stage of public meeting at Tanki Ground.
The rival factions assembled for the first time at a joint public meeting after MQM divided in two factions some time back. Dr Farooq Sattar of PIB group and Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui of Bahadurabad group showed up together at the stage and were flanked by other leaders of both factions of the party.
Dr Farooq Sattar in his usual fashion studded with crispy remarks mocked PPP by calling it a party 'Papa, Phupho and Pappu' and said this party not only ruined urban centre of province but also destroyed the lives of people in rural parts of Sindh.
Dr Sattar alleged that PPP always sowed seeds of hatred and division in Sindh but MQM showed restrain by not allowing its people to go for a separate province. He vowed to respond with a message of love to PPP despite being working against the people of Urban Sindh. He advised PPP leadership to arrest killers of their leader then talk about something else.
Sattar cursed quota system in Sindh and said it deprived people of Urban Sindh from their due rights in employment and said MQM's non-violent posture restrained people to blow out against PPP.
He said PPP sprinkled the salt on the burned people of Liaquatabad and said it was not MQM but PPP, which resorted to ethnic politics when it introduced linguistic bill in Sindh in 70s. Dr Farooq also spoke about those members of assemblies who deserted to PSP and announced he would not declare those, who deserted the party as 'traitor' and labeled them as 'misguided' people.
From now, situation would be reversed as those deserted the party would start returning to MQM again, he said.
He also invited those who were saying MQM has weakened and said they should come and see that party is united and would remain so because of its solid support base. "We respected the aspirations of its people when they asked for unity in the party. We announced to make MQM like it was in 80s and we achieved our promise of making it progressive, democratic and non-violent organization," Sattar said.
He predicted hard times are ahead of Asif Ali Zardari as more statements of Rao Anwar are expected to come out during investigations as well as Uzair Baloch's statements would disclose the names of his supporters in power corridors.
Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said as per the aspiration of MQM supporters, the party is united and on one page and said that Liauqatabad public meeting is refection of aspirations and wishes of people of the area.
Criticizing PPP, he said party didn't come to hold public meeting in Liaquatabad but they came here to deceive the people. He accused PPP of destroying national economy in the name of nationalization.
About PPP public meeting he noted that whole area was turned into a no-go area with armed goons of party were freely roaming in the area. He said that PPP was able to hold public gathering in the area because MQM and its supporters are peace-loving and democratic people. He questioned why Mohajirs are being subjected to injustices and are being disenfranchised by not counting them in the national census.
Siddiqui declared that no friction would be caused in ranks and files of MQM future as now no one would be leader but everyone would be worker in the party.
Amir Khan said today's public meeting of MQM gave a befitting response to rivals and said along with Mohajirs, the other ethnic groups should also raise their voices against feudals and capitalists, who are sucking the blood of this country. He said MQM is strong believer in constitution of Pakistan, but a separate province in Sindh is just demand of the party.
He vowed to fight those who want to make Mohajirs slave and said that MQM would not allow anyone to do so. He said that great sacrifices were made for foundation and strengthening of MQM and said that a party with the masses support can't be divided and destroyed.
He vowed to make accountable PPP for committing injustices with Sindh and said that through vote of power, MQM would take revenge from the ruling party. He also castigated PSP by terming it a "parachute party". He mocked PSP of being only party in the world, which claims to have representation in assemblies without contesting election.
Wasim Akhtar, Mayor Karachi also lambasted PPP for questioning his powers and said there is no truth in PPP's claim that Mayor Karachi is fully empowered. He deplored that PPP Chairman Bilawal Butto didn't speak on national issues, which suits his stature as he spoke on city issues.
