Pakistan People's Party Co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari held a consultative meeting in Lahore on Friday in which wide range of issues including matters pertaining to installation of caretaker set up in Sindh was discussed.
Sources in the PPP told Business Recorder that among others the meeting was attended by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Farooq H Naik, Maula Bux Chandio, Dr Asim Hussain, Qayyum Soomro and others.
The sources claimed that Sindh Chief Minister presented different names for the caretaker chief minister. He also apprised the participants about the stance taken by him along with his counterparts in KPK and Balochistan after the meeting of the National Economic Council. Syed Murad Ali Shah also apprised the meeting about steps taken by the Sindh government to overcome electricity load shedding in Karachi. The meeting discussed current political situation and evolved future strategy.
The sources further claimed that Asif Ali Zardari asked the Sindh Chief Minister to announce maximum relief to the people in its budget 2018-19. In the meeting, the sources said that modalities for running campaign for 2018 general elections were discussed and party leaders were assigned duties to contact like minded parties for electoral alliance where required.
Moreover, PPP Central Punjab President Qamar Zaman Kaira in a media talk contested the claims of the government regarding macro-economic stability.
The PPP leader said that poverty is on the rise while every depressed segment of society is taking to streets. Kaira took strong exception over reports that he is joining the PTI. He said he would remain loyal with the PPP and cannot even think to betray it. He criticised those elements that are raising objections over decisions of the courts. He also questioned state of affairs in Punjab particularly with regard to 56 companies. He slammed the government over poor economic policies which led to decline in the country's exports.
