The government has allocated Rs 1808.073 million for Ministry of National Food Security and Research (MNFS&R) in the annual budget for the fiscal year 2018-19 under Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), compared to Rs 1,614.266 million in the fiscal year 2017-18. According to the budget documents, the MNFS&R would execute nine new and 17 ongoing projects during next financial year, 2018-19.
Under the PSDP 2018-19, an amount of Rs 475 million has been allocated for promotion of olive cultivation on commercial scale in Pakistan while Rs 127 million was earmarked for better cotton initiatives for sustainable cotton production. Out of the total amount allocated for MNFS&R, Rs 100.121 million is earmarked for National Pesticides Resides Monitoring System, Rs 100 million for strengthening/up gradation of agriculture and livestock research system of arid zone research institute Merkot-Sindh and another Rs 100 million for commercialization of tissue culture technology in Pakistan.
According to the budget documents, Rs 100 million has been allocated for promoting research for productivity enhancement in pulses, Rs 50 million for establishment of service center for fish farming clusters and Rs 48 million for ensuring supply of good quality milk in Islamabad. The government allocated Rs 48.126 million for strengthening and up gradation of federal pesticide reference and testing laboratories, Malir Halt, Karachi and Rs 37.928 million for implementation of quality management system at National Veterinary Laboratory (NVL) and expending scope of accreditation under ISO-17025.
