Pakistan Army and Pakistan Air Forces (PAF) have joined hands with Capital Development Authority (CDA) to extinguish fire erupted on Margalla Hills here on Friday. Four helicopters are busy extinguishing fire with bambi buckets, said a spokesman of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). He said that Pakistan Army and PAF were requested to help the CDA control fire on Margalla Hills. The spokesman said that the Army and PAF teams reached Kalanger village with firefighting equipment for controlling fire.
On Thursday night, parts of Margalla Hills behind Daman-e-Koh and the Naval Headquarters caught fire with the flames spreading at a slower pace on Friday. The flames behind Daman-e-Koh were controlled by locals who usually use sticks to put out forest fire, as firefighters are unable to reach these areas on short notice. The officials of CDA said that fire is not seasonal, adding that usually it erupts due to scorching summer temperatures. The officials said they were trying to ascertain the cause behind the outbreak of fire. They said they suspect that the fire must have been caused by human error such as a burning cigarette, etc.
The staff of the Environment Directorate could be able to partially extinguish fire; however, another blaze near Kalangar village could not be put out till filing of this report.
