NFC, 18th Amendment: PPP MNAs file adjournment motion against Miftah's stance
The MNAs from Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have submitted an adjournment motion in the National Assembly Secretariat regarding the statements of Prime Minister's Adviser on Finance Miftah Ismail on National Finance Commission (NFC). The adjournment motion was submitted by Syed Naveed Qamar, Nawab Muhammad Yousaf Talpur, Shazia Marri, Dr Nafisa Shah, Mir Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani, Imran Zafar Leghari, Shahida Rehmani and Surayya Jatoi on Friday in the National Assembly Secretariat.
They "intend to submit an adjournment motion to discuss the recent statements by the PM's Adviser on Finance, Miftah Ismail that the National Finance Commission (NFC) award is imperfect." They quoted Miftah as declaring the NF among the most critical structural problems for Pakistan's economy and he suggested readjustment in the resource distribution formula by making amendments in the Constitution as suggested in the articles published in print media. This echoes with recent report by IMF which also considers such resource distribution arrangements redundant, the PPP MNAs cited. Their motion further says:
"Pakistan Peoples Party would not allow rolling back of the 18th Constitutional Amendment and changes in the National Finance Commission (NFC) award at all cost as it represents national consensus and greater ownership of resources. Pakistan is an independent state and would not bow before the dictates of any international financial institution. "This is a matter of urgent public importance and therefore should be discussed immediately on the floor of the House in the best of national interest."
