The Peshawar High Court on Wednesday dismissed a petition against the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, while the court directed the construction company to continue work on flyover near Chamkani for the project. A two-judge bench comprised of Justice Qaisar Rasheed and Justice Muhammad Ayub Khan was hearing the petition against the design of the Peshawar BRT project.
The petition was filed by a resident of Chamkani Peshawar, Mudasir Ahmad through his counsel, in which he took stance that the inhabitants were being faced with numerous problems due to construction work on BRT project.
The petition said the flyover near Chamkani was not included in the original design of the transport project, and appealed to court order for stopping work on it by declaring illegal.
During hearing on the petition, counsel for the petitioner told the court that the under construction bridge at the Chamkani area of the city is not part of the BRT project. The counsel told the court that due to the construction work, all the roads have been closed causing difficulties for the masses.
Additional Advocate General Sikandar Raza on behalf of the government informed the court that the Chamkani bridge has been made part of the BRT project. He maintained that the PHC has also declared design of the BRT project as legal.
Following hearing, the court dismissed the petition and concluded the case. Meanwhile, the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday while issuing notices to both the parties in Asma Rani murder case has adjourned hearing till April 2.
A two-member bench of PHC headed by Justice Yahya Afridi heard the case in which lawyer - representing the deceased's family - requested that the case should be transferred from Kohat to anti-terrorism court in Peshawar. He informed the court the key suspects in the case - Mujahid Afridi and his friend Shazeb - belonged to an influential family. The lawyer added that due to this factor, lawyers representing Asma's family feels insecure in Kohat.
After hearing the arguments, the court sent notices to both the sides and adjourned hearing of the case till April 2.
