Co-Chairman of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari Friday said that he would abide by all the decisions taken in the All Parties Conference (APC) of Dr Tahirul Qadri, to be held on Saturday (today). He was addressing a joint press conference along with Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chief Tahirul Qadri at Minhaj-ul-Quran.
"We will abide by the decisions taken in the APC and follow a joint strategy," he said.
He added that Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah would have to step down, as cases have been registered against them.
Zardari said PPP had a long association with Dr Qadri. He recalled the days of Benazir Bhutto, saying that PPP has always raised its voice against injustice and for the rights of the poor.
On the recent visit of Shehbaz Sharif to Saudi Arabia followed by Nawaz's trip to Saudi Arabia, Zardari said the Sharifs had always turned towards their foreign friends for support when they are in trouble. "We will not allow such a joke to take place once again," Zardari said. He said he has abandoned the policy of reconciliation because Nawaz Sharif has seldom bothered about the supremacy of the Parliament. "I can count on his fingers the number of times the former prime minister attended the parliament."
"Nawaz is unable to prove his money trail," he added. Qadri added that any decision coming from Saudi Arabia would be from the kingdom's rulers, but "we are constitutionally free and autonomous." He said the Sharifs stress the point that political decisions shouldn't be taken in courts on the one hand but seek help from outside the country on the other. Both the leaders expressed the hope that Saudi leadership would not interfere in the internal affairs of Pakistan.
Senior PPP leader and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Khurshid Shah said it is the right of every citizen to seek justice and PPP would not compromise on the Model Town tragedy. "It would be a litmus test whether poor gets justice or not."
Earlier, Dr Qadri thanked Zardari and PPP for the support lent to PAT in its quest for justice in the Model Town case. Party leaders including Qamar Zaman Kaira, Manzoor Wattoo and Sardar Latif Khosa were also present on the occasion. The two leaders had also met on December 7 with a joint demand for resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the wake of the Model Town inquiry report.
