Secretary Railways Parveen Agha has inaugurated up-to-date Railways reservation office at Rawalpindi Railway Station on Thursday to assist the rail passengers in purchasing tickets effortlessly. The old Railways reservation office has been fully refurbished and upgraded to provide improved services to nearly 4,000 passengers who daily use railways service from Rawalpindi Railway Station to reach their destinations.
The passengers purchase tickets amounting to Rs 3.5 million daily on an average from the main reservation office. The improved reservation office has also been made centrally air-conditioned. Latest digital monitors and electronic boards have been installed at the office and laptops have also been provided to reservation clerks. The government was giving exceptional care to the facilities being provided to the rail passengers, including modern railways reservation offices. The total cost of renovation of reservation office, including civil and electric work, was approximately Rs 2 million.
This particular reservation office was inaugurated by former Railway Minister M Khan Junejo in 1979. After inauguration it has been upgraded for the first time under the leadership of Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique. The ministry has chalked out a plan to upgrade 11 railways stations as per international standard in big cities across the country in first phase under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). These included Karachi, Hyderabad, Rohri (Sukkur), Multan, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and Quetta.
The ML-1 extends from Kimari (Karachi) to Peshawar/Torkham, covering about 1,750km and passing through Hyderabad, Rohri (Sukkur), Multan, Lahore and Rawalpindi stations. The ML-1 has 196 big and small railways stations. The passenger facilitation for these stations will be provided during up-gradation of ML-1.
