ISLAMABAD: With some progress on the issue of 20th amendment in the Constitution, both government and opposition on Wednesday agreed to continue talks to reach an agreement by Thursday in order to pave the way for the passage of the amendment from both houses of the Parliament.
The third round of talks was held at the parliament house Wednesday in which PPP was represented by Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khursheed Shah and Mian Raza Rabbani while PML-N was represented by Leader of the Opposition Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Senator Ishaq Dar and Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
Talking to media, PPP leader Khursheed Shah said there is no deadlock between the government and the opposition on the 20th amendment.
He said that a meaningful progress has been made in talks on the issue, while things would be fully finalized in a day or so. He said that the suggestions being floated in the talks would be presented before the leadership on both sides.
He said it is the leadership's prerogative to fully accept or seek some further fine-tuning.
PML-N Leader and Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, Ch Nisar Ali Khan said that a final deal has so far not been made. However, the next round of talk is very important.
Ch Nisar said that the government’s team has sought time for consultations.
