Ukraine is likely to export 60 percent more peas in the 2017/18 season at 650,000 tonnes on expectations of a better harvest, analyst UkrAgroConsult said on Tuesday. Ukraine, a net exporter of peas, is likely to increase its harvest to 900,000 tonnes this year after farmers extended the sowing area to 290,000 hectares from 239,000 hectares a year ago. The harvest totalled 745,000 tonnes in 2016.
The consultancy said the average yield per hectare may decrease slightly to 3.16 tonnes in 2017 from 3.17 tonnes in 2016. "Ukrainian traders have already boosted peas exports dramatically this season. Ukraine exported over 300,000 tonnes of peas for the eight months of 2016/17, or 27 percent more than for the entire last season," the consultancy said.
