Frontier College for Women Peshawar with 34 points clinched the overall trophy of the 7th Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University (SBBWU) Inter-College Games which concluded here at University premises on Thursday.
Minister for Public Health and Engineering KP Shah Farman was the chief guest on this occasion. Former World Champion Qamar Zaman, Hassan Dad of 1122, Dr Whaeed Mughal, Vice Chancellor SBBWU Professor Dr Razia Sultana, Director Sports Maria Samin, Principal of all 21 participating colleges, DPEs, officials, players and large number of spectators were also present on this occasion.
Frontier College for Women recorded 34 points while Aysha Abbas of Bacha Khan Girls Degree College was declared as best athlete as she secured 28 individual points.
In athletics, Govt Girls Degree College Bacha Khan got the winner trophy by securing 58 points, followed by FCW with 44 points and Govt Girls Degree College Chagharmatti remained at third with 15 points.
The colourful closing and annual presentation ceremony was started with the recitation from the Holy Quran by Shaista Khan of Govt Girls Degree College Tajo Bibi, Charsadda, followed by the teams March Past.
Soon after the March Past, the players of SBBWU presented a well prepared national anthem, followed by band display and various formation of the Police Band that largely enthralled the sitting spectators. Fayal Khan of FCW presented national son "Ye Des Hamara Ha Isay Hum Na Sawara Ha".
The traditional "Atharn" dance display of Girls College Bacha Khan turned the whole complexion into a melodious one, followed by Tug-of-War event won by the players Girls College Charsadda No 1 players by defeating team of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University by 2-1. There was balloon catching contests which won by the team of Shaheen and Farhad by recording 12 points, followed by Sadaf and Sara and Najma and Raham Bibi.
Speaking on this occasion, Shah Farman lauded the role of the University for imparting education besides involving the students of all affiliated colleges in healthy sports activities. He said the present govt gave equal sports opportunities for male and female students and it initiated a mega games like "Khilarri Ho Tu Sabit Karay" prove you as player wherein male and female players from all 26 districts are taking part.
He said the government is very keen in developing infrastructure for the youth and so far 37 grounds have been handed over to the directorate of sports in different districts and tehsil for playing purposes.
In her welcome speech, Vice Chancellor SBBWU Professor Dr Razia Sultana thanked the Minister for extending all out support to the University.
She also announced Rs 5000 for the best athlete Ayesha Abbas.
At the end, the chief guest gave away trophies, certificates, medals and cash prizes to the position holders.
