KP Minister for Elementary and Secondary (E&S) Education, Muhammad Atif Khan has directed the high-ups of his department to include such projects in the upcoming Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2017-18 based on public welfare and reflects the policies of PTI-led government in letter and spirit.
He issued these directives while chairing a high-level meeting of his department on upcoming ADP 2017-18, here on Wednesday. The meeting was also attended by the Secretary Education Dr Shahzad Bangush and Special Secretary Qaisar Alam. The meeting was informed that reconstruction of 300 schools (100 each primary, middle and high), conversion of 100 mosque schools into primary schools, reconstruction of fully damaged schools of 2015 earthquake, establishment of 100 new primary schools on need basis in the province, strengthening of two labs in each Government School at Tehsil level, construction of building for rented schools, up-gradation of PITE and development of Digital Contents in each school were included in the next ADP.
Similarly the meeting was also briefed in details on reforms initiatives of the department and certain decision were taken in this respect. The minister in his brief speech, ordered the authorities concerned to focus on betterment of existing schools instead of new one and initiate steps for creating space for the children in the city schools in the new ADP.
He maintained that Rs 15 billion would be spent on construction of 720 schools in the province in the new financial year. Similarly, Rs 3 billion was being earmarked for establishment of 1,548 IT labs in the coming three years, he said. Meanwhile, KP government has recovered more than 190 million rupees from teacher's absenteeism since 2013 through its Independent Monitoring Unit (IMU). There has been a substantial increase in attendance of teachers in public schools as a result of the Independent Monitoring Unit (IMU) and online education management system (OAMS) across the province.
"KP Elementary & Secondary Education (E&SE) department is determined to enhance the monitoring system in schools, both in quantitative and qualitative manners. Over 98 percent schools are visited by data monitors in KP every month and data collected is based on 11 key education indicators. With this new system we hope that it will further decrease down to zero percent," he said.
