Surgical exports increase 19.17 percent

 ISLAMABAD: The export of surgical goods from the country during the first half of current financial year increased by 19.17 percent.

During the period from July-December 2011, the country earned about US$ 142.7 million by exporting the surgical goods and medical instruments.

According the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the export of medical goods was recorded at US$ 119.7 million during the period from July-December 2010.

Meanwhile, the export of cutlery also witnessed an increase of 1.37 percent as cutlery goods worth US$ 42.40 million was exported during the period under review as compared to the export of U$ 41.8 million during the same period of last year.

During the period from July-December 2011, the export of chemicals and pharma products registered 100 percent increase as compared with the same period of last year, the data revealed.

The export of onyx manufactured increased by 34.35 percent in first six months of current financial year as about 1,602 metric ton of the product worth US$ 5.171 million was exported as against the export of US$ 3 million during the same period of last year, it added.

However, pharmaceutical products' export decreased by 8.26 percent during the period under review as it was recorded at US$ 63,427 million against the last year export of US$ 69.14 million.
