12 killed, scores injured in bombing of Homs

BEIRUT: At least 12 people were killed and dozens were wounded on Monday as Syrian forces launched fresh bombing raids on the powderkeg city of Homs, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The Britain-based group said the shelling, which began at dawn, was taking place in several neighborhoods of the central city.

Opposition groups and activists reported a "massacre" overnight Friday in Homs, saying more than 200 civilians were killed during a heavy bombardment by regime forces who they said fired tank shells, nail bombs and mortars.

On Sunday, activists reported more shelling in the city, with at least 23 civilians killed.
