Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali of Hamid Khan-led Professional group has been elected President of Lahore High Court Bar Association by defeating his main rival Ramzan Sohal Chaudhry of Asma Jahangir-led Independent group. Ch Zulfiqar Ali secured 3365 votes while Chaudhry Ramzan obtained 2909 votes, in all 6600 votes were cast.
Two other candidates for the president's slot Aazar Latif Khan and Sardar Khurram Latif Khosa bagged 744 and 641 votes respectively. Rashid Lodhi was elected vice president in one-on-one contest with Chaudhry Muhamamd Saleem. Lodhi bagged 4419 while Saleem secured 3276 votes.
Amir Saeed Raan notched the slot of secretary by getting 2396 votes while Muhammad Zaheer Butt was elected finance secretary after securing 3446 votes. Chairman of Election Board, Javed Iqbal Raja conducted the polling electronically and manually as well. Strict security measures were taken in and outside the Lahore High Court. Lawyers were allowed entry after thorough frisking and presentation of national identity and bar cards. Police arrested three persons for their suspicious movement outside the high court. Personnel of rangers, elite force and police had taken positions at and around the high court while containers were installed on Mall Road to restrict traffic towards the high court.
