JI's woman activists stage anti-India demonstration

KARACHI: Hundreds of female activists of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) on Friday held a demonstration against India, asking the United Nations (UN) to implement its resolution to give right of self-determination to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Waving party flags and holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans showing solidarity with the people of Indian held Kashmir, they asked the UN to influence India to implement its resolution on holding a plebiscite.

Addressing the demonstration outside Karachi Press Club, Chief of JI Karachi Chapter, Muhammad Hussain Mehanti termed the government's decision to give India the status of Most Favoured Nation (MFN) as "disloyalty" with the Kashmiris. He said Kashmiris were fighting for their independence against 0.75 million Indian army. He said Pakistan government, Organisation of Islamic Countries and the UN was silent on the Kashmir issue which he dubbed as 'criminal act'.

He said British rule had hatched the conspiracy against the Kashmiris. "Quaid-e-Azam, Muhammad Ali Jinnah had called Kashmir a 'jugular vein' of Pakistan," he recalled.

He said despite the decades-long conflict claimed thousands of lives of innocent Kashmiris, the international community did not pay any attention to the issue.

Mehanti also criticised the incumbent government of Pakistan for not taking up the Kashmir issue at international forums, saying the country needed to change its foreign policy and reset its priorities in the best national interest.

General Secretary JI, Naseem Siddiqi and former MPA Nasrullah Shaji, besides Central leaders of Women Wing of JI, Aisha Munawar, Deputy Secretary Durdana Siddiqi, and JI Karachi Chief Rana Fazal also spoke on the occasion.
