Abdul Rahim Janoo, joint presidential candidate of the Businessmen Panel (BMP) and the Pakistan Business Group (PBG) for the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) for the 2017 election Wednesday presented its manifesto for revival of Pakistan's largest trade body and vowed to resolve the problems of the business community on a high priority basis, if he is elected. Addressing a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, Janoo said that PBG and BMP have joined hands under the leadership of Tariq Sayeed and Aqeel Karim Dhedhi to serve the business community without discrimination.
He said that keeping in view the importance of the textile sector, he will persuade the government to reduce the cost of utilities for export-oriented industries. In addition, he will make efforts to reduce the cost of doing business in comparison with competitor country. Custom duty and taxes on raw material of the sector will be brought down to make Pakistani textile products competitive, he added.
In accordance with the Sales Tax Rules of 2006, a cheque must be issued to exporters within seven days after the issuance of the RPO against refund claims, he said. He added that the case of exports refunds will be strongly pursued with the FBR for strict compliance as stoppage of refunds create liquidity problems for exporters, Janoo said.
He said that establishment of new industrial zones will be pursued rigorously as it would attract new investment, promote industrialisation and create jobs, and this will boost the national economy. As the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a game changer for all sectors, including tourism, the government will be asked to introduce a special package for the hotel industry, he said.
Janoo said that the problems of commercial importers of industrial raw material will also be addressed on a high priority basis. "If we will be elected, we will take steps to increase the role of women in FPCCI and in national economy by providing them access to cheap credit and capacity building," he added.
