Punjab government, Huawei to launch pilot projects on e-healthcare, e-education solutions
Punjab government in collaboration with Huawei Technologies Pakistan (Pvt) Limited is going to kick off the e-healthcare and e-education solutions pilot projects in the province. "Huawei Technologies Company has agreed to set-up e-services pilot projects in four hospitals, one university, one college, one high school and one elementary school free of cost in Punjab as its pilot projects," Chairman Planning & Development Punjab Jahanzeb Khan said this while addressing the agreement signing ceremony between Huawei Technology Pakistan and Punjab government here at P&D Complex.
Secretary Specialized Healthcare Punjab Najam Ali Shah, Secretary Primary & Secondary Healthcare Ali Jan and Huawei Chief Executive Officer Saif-Chi mutually signed the documents. Speaking on the occasion, Jehanzeb Khan said the Punjab government remains committed to uplift of health and education sectors with the technical assistance of global companies.
He also said that instant improvement in health and education sectors and other development initiatives are important pillars of government policy. He appreciated Huawei Company and also hoped that the company would perfectly implement these projects. Chief Executive Officer Huawei Technologies Saif-Chi said on the occasion that Huawei Technologies Company is already engaged with Punjab government to improve the development sector in the province.
Huawei will provide technical and development support to implement the Huawei e-education and e-health pilot projects in Punjab hospitals namely Children's Hospital Lahore, District Hospital Muzaffargarh, Tehsil Headquarter Hospital Gojra and Rural Health Center, Khanqah Dogran Sheikhupura and educational institutions IT University Lahore, Directorate of Staff Development Lahore, Government College of Elementary Teachers, Multan and Government High School Raiwind Lahore, he mentioned.
Under the agreement, a smart e-Class Room will be established at the IT University Lahore to develop connection with similar class rooms in other universities of the world. This will help interactive learning enabling these students to communicate with scholars of partner universities. Campus monitoring system will also be installed which will enable live video recording. As the health sector concerned, Hospital Information Management System will be installed.
Moreover, sources said that Punjab government aims to leverage upon the revolution in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to modernise governance and keep Punjab abreast with global proficiencies in service delivery. It continues to play a pivotal role in introducing strategic interventions that increase the digital literacy of citizens; nurture venture capitalists and mature businesses; implement smart monitoring that increase transparency; and reduce the turnaround time (TAT) in public service delivery. In Punjab budget for FY 2016-17, Rs 13.95 billion has been earmarked for governance and IT sector for implementation of projects sponsored by Punjab Information Technology Board and other government departments.
