ISLAMABAD: Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan said that his client (Prime Minister Gilani) had the right to file an appeal against the verdict and that he would advise the Prime Minister over it.
He said that, however the Prime Minister would be the final authority to take decision about filing of appeal against the orders issued by the Supreme Court on Thursday in contempt issue of NRO implementation case.
Talking to media after judicial proceedings on the contempt issue, he questioned as to why civilian Prime Ministers were always held responsible for the contempt of court in the unfortunate history of this country.
"A general not only removed the judges but also confined them along with their families but there was no contempt proceedings against him," Aitzaz pointed out.
He said in PCO Judges' case, the option of filing Intra Court Appeals was exercised and in this case, his client had the option to move an appeal, however, the PM would be the final authority to take this decision.
He emphasized that any clash between the institutions should be avoided in the larger interest of the country and warned that a third party could take mileage of any possible rift between the institutions.
He said according to the advice given by the law ministry, the letter could not be written to Swiss authorities as all legal proceedings there were closed on merit.
Aitzaz said the Prime Minister had appeared before Court in compliance of his constitutional duty and not as an individual person.
