The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday granted projective bail to former Sindh Minister for Information and PPP leader Sharjeel Inam Memon in another case pertaining to illegal allotment of state land and adjustment of land in 43 Dehs.
Memon moved the court through his counsel, Advocate Faiz Shah, seeking pre-arrest bail in connection with an investigation launched by the NAB into illegal allotment and adjustment of land in 43 Dehs of Malir in favour of Bahria Town.
His lawyer informed the judges that the NAB had issued a call-up notice to Memon on October 18, 2016, asking him to appear before it in connection with the investigation.
Memon wanted to appear before it and face the investigation but he feared he would be arrested unlawfully. The court was requested to grant the bail to Memon.
The bench, headed by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto, approved his plea for protective bail against surety bonds of Rs 2 million till November 14.
The court also extended his pre-arrest bail in Rs5billion corruption case till November 14.
The bench observed that Memon had been given almost one month's time to surrender before the trial court; however, he had failed to turn up so far. "Under these circumstances, we consider it appropriate that we grant him the protective bail until November 14 subject to furnishing of solvent surety in sum of Rs2 million," the court ruled.
Memon counsel told the court that his client was directed to surrender before the trial court and face charges of corruption in the award of advertisement by October 10, but due to his ailment and subsequent appointments with doctors he could not return to the country.
