The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director, Christine Lagarde, has said that IMF-supported economic reform programme helped restore macroeconomic stability and strengthened Pakistan economy's resilience.
In a letter to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Lagarde said that Pakistan has achieved a great deal over the past three years. Congratulating the Prime Minister, she stated, "You and your colleagues on the completion of your IMF-supported economic reform program which helped restore macroeconomic stability and strengthen the economy's resilience. I was encouraged that you plan to continue pushing ahead with reforms to facilitate a deeper structural transformation of the economy and set it on a path of higher and more inclusive growth. The IMF will be ready to support Pakistan in its endeavours in any way possible".
She further said that it was a pleasure to visit Pakistan and meet with Prime Minister Sharif and his economic team. "I truly enjoyed my first visit to Pakistan and the engaging conversations we have had about the progress and future direction of your economic reform program," she added. She expressed her gratitude for hospitality and the cooperation between Pakistan and the IMF.
