CAIRO: Egypt's Alexandria Cotton Exporters' Association (Alcotexa) committed to sell 4,336 tonnes of cotton in the week that ended on Jan. 21, an Alcotexa official said on Monday.
The sales comprised 1,174 tonnes of the Giza 88 grade of cotton and 3,162 tonnes of Giza 86 grade, the official said.
The deal brings Alcotexa's export commitments for the 2011/12 season, which began in September 2011, to 39,846 tonnes worth $130.13 million.
By this time last year, Alcotexa had sold 92,779 tonnes of cotton worth $350.72 million.
