Over Rs 152m fine against vehicles in 2011: RCTP

imeeeeeaRAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi City Traffic Police (RCTP) issued 772,392 challan tickets to public service vehicles in 2011 with fines amounting to over Rs 152 million while about 10136 vehicles and motorcycles were impounded in respective police stations on severe traffic rules violations.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Ghulam Abbas Tarar stated that city traffic police took stern action against traffic rules violators and a number of drivers were also arrested during the period.

CTO said 9585 vehicles with tinted glasses were fined, 49732 vehicles were issued challan tickets on creating traffic hurdles for others, 30292 drivers without driving licenses were challaned, 32535 drivers were fined on violation of traffic signal. Similarly 25218 drivers were issued challan slips on use of mobile phone while driving.

As many as 32438 drivers were fined on wrong parking with issuance of challan tickets to 175,858 drivers of vehicles and motorcycles on violation of lane and zebra crossing.

CTO informed that 85786 motorcyclists without helmet were issued challan tickets, 24776 public service vehicles were fined on violation of route permit, 2041 vehicles without registration, 3155 smoke emitting vehicles, 1126 on pressure horns, 1650 without proper light and 8397 vehicles were penalized on rash and dangerous driving.

CTO informed that several special campaigns were also launched during the year against one-wheeling, use of mobile phone and to check other traffic violations. The CTO urged the people to cooperate with traffic wardens and said a special squad is available to help and facilitate the citizens on Helpline 1915.
