Soyem of Pir Pagara today; President Zardari to attend

KARACHI: Soyem of the late Shah Mardan Shah II, Pir Pagara, will be held today.

President Asif Ali Zardari is expected to attend and condole with the new Pir of Pagara, Pir Sibghatullah Shah Rashidi later in the day.

The spiritual leader of the Hur tribe and chief of Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F), Pir Pagara, was laid to rest beside the grave of his grandfather Shah Mardan Shah I in Pir Jo Goth, on Thursday.

Funeral prayers for Pir Pagara were offered in Pir Jo Goth in Khairpur on Thursday led by Hazrat Siraj Ahmed Gilani, also known as Pir of Jhang..

Thousands of mourners reached Pir Jo Goth in Khairpur to attend the funeral of Pir Sahib Pagara on Thursday.

Pir Pagara passed away in London due to cardiac arrest in Wellington Hospital, London, on January 10.

He was taken to London on January 5 for a lung infection.

Among the prominent politicians who attended the funeral included Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, former Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi, former Sindh Assembly Speaker Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah, Prime Minister’s son Abdul Qadir Gilani, Federal Minister Khuda Bux Rajar and MPAs including Imtiaz Sheikh, Jam Madad Ali and Khan Muhammed Mehr.

A delegation of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) led by Dr. Sagheer Ahmed also attended the procession.
