PERTH: Paceman Umesh Yadav claimed three Australian wickets to give beleaguered India some respite on the second day of the third Test in Perth on Saturday.
Resuming at 149 without loss after India were routed for 161 on the opening day, Australia were 256 for three at lunch.
Opener David Warner was unbeaten on 156 after reaching his century in just 69 balls on Friday, with captain Michael Clarke on three.
Although the home side led by 95 runs, Yadav's spirited spell was a welcome shift in fortunes for the tourists after a dismal opening day. India also trail 2-0 in the four-Test series.
It could have been an even better session for India with Warner dropped on 126 by first slip Virat Kohli from the bowling of Zaheer Khan.
However Indian skipper and wicketkeeper M.S. Dhoni may also have been at fault for not attempting a regulation catch slightly to his left when Khan found the edge as Warner attempted to advance down the wicket.
Instead Dhoni watched the ball pass and Kohli juggled the ball before dropping the catch as he lunged to his right.
Warner made the most of the chance to reach 150 from 128 balls, with 17 fours and four sixes.
He and Ed Cowan put on 214 for the first wicket, just 14 short of the record opening stand in Tests at the ground, before Cowan was bowled by Yadav for 74.
Local batsman Shaun Marsh again went cheaply, caught in slips by V.V.S. Laxman off Yadav for 11 -- the left-hander has now made just 14 runs in the series at 3.50.
Former skipper Ricky Ponting made seven before his middle stump was uprooted by Yadav as Australia lost three wickets for 28 runs.
