ISLAMABAD: The committee on energy held its first meeting on Tuesday at the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources to discuss issues with regard to gas crisis.
The meeting was held in the convenership of the Minster for Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr Asim Hussain, said an official the ministry. The minister briefed the committee on the existing situation of gas and added there was overall gas shortfall of 1.1 bcfd in the country.
He said that SNGPL was facing a shortfall of 735 mmcfd while the in SSGC system the shortfall stood at around 376 mmcfd for the month of January.
However, the minister said after February this year, the situation would improve and its shortfall would decrease, gradually.
He informed the government was taking solid steps to explore indigenous resources for meeting country's energy requirements.
He said the domestic sector was being accorded top priority while distributing gas among all the sectors.
The committee was of the opinion that the issue of gas shortfall should not be politicized and the opposition should put forward its workable suggestions to overcome the crisis.
The committee has been constituted to prepare recommendation for overcoming the gas crisis and it would send its report to the cabinet.
The Managing directors of the SNGPL and the SSGC took part in the meeting through video conferencing and others who attended the meeting included: Minister for Water and Power, Syed Naveed Qamar, Minister for Religious Affairs, Syed Khurshid Shah, Minister for Defence Chudhry Ahmed Mukhtar, Minister for Kashmir Affairs Mian Manzoor Wattoo, officials of Finance, Industries and the cabinet division.
