KARACHI: The Sindh Coordinator, Emergency Operation Centre for Polio eradication, Dr Fayyaz Jatoi has strongly dispelled the impression being created about death of a child in Sujawal, consequent to administration of oral or injectable polio vaccine.

In a statement here Monday, he said no such case has ever happened across the province at any given time as no such possibility exists.

"Vaccines being administered to protect children against the crippling disease are absolutely safe and their efficacy is globally recognized," he said.

The Sindh coordinator for EmOC emphasized that vaccines do not turn hazardous or fatal even if there is any possible failure of maintaining cold chain prerequisite for the temperature control.

He, however, assured that reported death of child would be urgently and extensively investigated so as to ascertain the exact cause and ensure that misinformation being generated by some is duly addressed.

"We have to maintain public confidence and restore the same if shaken in any manner as could not allow our kids to remain vulnerable against the virus that continues to persist in our environment," elaborated Dr. Jatoi.

He also took exception to the alleged irresponsible attitude of a certain section of media for running fake stories and creating confusion among parents without acquiring provincial health department's or EmOC's stance.

"We at current point of time can not afford such baseless reports as the same vaccine has been administered across the globe, even in Saudi Arabia, and have helped children protected against the polio virus," he said. Dr. Jatoi reiterated that vaccine, of same strain and potency, administered to children in all other states including Muslim countries is available for local kids.
