Forensic report reveals Pakistani-Italian woman was strangled to death

Pakistani-origin Italian woman, who was allegedly killed in the name of ‘honor’ by her family, was in fact strangled to death, a forensic report revealed on Wednesday.

According to the Punjab Forensic Laboratory's report, 26-year-old Sana Cheema was strangled to death as her neck was broken, local media reported.

On April 25, Sana's father Ghulam Mustafa and uncle Mazhar Iqbal were charged and arrested for her killing. Her brother Adnan Mustafa, who is still on the run, is yet to be apprehended. The same day a district and sessions judge issued orders to have her body exhumed, after which samples were sent for post-mortem.

Sana was allegedly murdered by her family for not marrying the groom of their choice, who was her relative. The victim wanted to marry a man in Italy. Her father allegedly conspired with her uncle and brother and killed her on April 18.

Her family termed her death ‘accidental’ and buried her in Mangowal area of District Gujrat. After news of her death spread on social media, police started an investigation.
