JIT holds Rao Anwar responsible for Naqeebullah's murder

The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has found Rao Anwar responsible for the murder of Naqeebullah Mehsud and has termed the act as 'terrorism'.

The JIT, which was formed on the orders of the Supreme Court, in its report has held the former Senior Superintendent of police (SSP) Anwar and his team members responsible for the extra-judicial murder of Naqeebullah. The investigation team was headed by Additional Inspector General of Police Dr Aftab Pathan.

The investigation team had also also found that Anwar was present at the encounter site. In its reports, the JIT has said that Naqeebullah was innocent and the police team had tried to hide the evidence of the fake encounter to mislead the media. The report also states the team had taken assistance of geofencing and forensics for the investigation, local media reported.

The team had also found blood strains of the four people who had been murdered. The blood stains of two people had been found on the carpet of one room, while blood stains of all four had been found in another room. Anwar had also been taken to the 'encounter' site and had been unable to prove his innocence.

Naqeebullah a 27-year-old native of Waziristan was killed, along with three other suspected terrorists, on January 13 in an alleged encounter with a police team headed by Anwar. However, Naqeebullah’s family has claimed that the deceased was innocent and was killed in a ‘fake’ encounter.
