Released over the weekend, the new variant of Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro targets senior citizens but mainly students who want to dodge distractions during examinations, as the phone does not support internet connection.

The internet-free device, which is only released in South Korea, cannot connect to 2G, 3G, 4G LTE or Wi-Fi, making it an ideal smartphone for students avoiding distractions to focus on studies. According to The Verge, Galaxy J2 Pro could also be handy for people who do not need internet access and want a smartphone fulfilling the basics such as, regular calls and text messages.

The bare essentials of the smartphone include an offline dictionary to translate between English and Korean, FM radio, 8MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, 2,600mAh battery, calendar and a calculator. It is available in Black and Gold colors.

In an effort to promote education, Digital Trends reports that the South Korean giant is currently running a promotion for students aged between 18 and 21. As per the scheme, the students would be able to trade in their Galaxy J2 Pro for a high-end model such as Galaxy A, Galaxy S or Galaxy Note series after the completion of exams. However, currently the phone costs 199,100 won ($185 or PKR 21,437).

The phone was initially launched this year exclusively in Vietnam but, with an option to access the internet. This variant of the phone has only been launched in South Korea and there’s no word yet if the phone will be sold in other countries or not.
