LAHORE: The Supreme Court on Saturday disposed of a suo motu notice regarding disposal of untreated effluent into river bodies.

The bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar heard the matter at the Supreme Court Lahore Registry.

At the outset of proceedings, amicus curiae Ayesha Hamid informed the court that PC-I of three sewage treatment plants had been prepared in compliance of previous court directions.

She said that the plants would be established at Shadbagh, Mehmood Booti and Shahdara and the projects in that regard had been forwarded to departments concerned for approval.

The bench was also informed that the projects would be completed in coming years.

At this, the bench directed for submission of periodic reports in this regard while disposing of the matter.

Meanwhile, the bench forming a committee sought recommendations to address the issue of hospital waste disposal.

As the proceedings of a suo motu notice regarding disposal of hospital waste began, amicus curiae Dr Samia Altaf submitted a report and apprised the court that hospital waste disposal system was working poorly.

However, the bench adjourning the hearing till April 14, formed a committee and sought recommendations to address the issue.
