'Orange' snowfall blankets parts of Europe
People across Eastern Europe recently witnessed snowfall but to their bewilderment the snow was ‘orange’ instead of being white, making the land look more like Mars.
Images emerged on social media, which showed the snow mountains turn slightly auburn in color instead of their usual white. Though people were left confused seeing the weird color of snow, scientists explained how the snow turned orange from white.
According to BBC, the unusual color of the snow is because of the fine particles of sand being lifted from the Sahara into the atmosphere, then travelling across the world and finally falling backing to the ground mixed in with rain and snow.

“There has been a lot of lifted sand or dust originating from North Africa and the Sahara, from sand storms which have formed in the desert. As the sand gets lifted to the upper levels of the atmosphere, it gets distributed elsewhere,” meteorologist Steven Keates from the UK Met Office told The Independent.
This phenomena happens in every five years or so but, this time, the orange snow was more exciting because of a desert sandstorm, which was so massive that it was even seen in NASA’s satellite imagery travelling across the globe.
Reports suggest that the peculiar snow had fallen on Moldova, Romania, Russia, Bulgaria and Ukraine. Many social media users posted pictures on social media sites of a ski resort in Sochi, Russia.
