LHC rejects appeal of Zainab’s murderer against death sentence

Lahore High Court (LHC) rejected on Tuesday the appeal by Zainab's murderer Imran Ali against an anti-terrorism court's (ATC) verdict of awarding him death sentence.

According to local media reports, hearing the petition, Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan said that one should raise objections when court gives justice on time. Imran filed an appeal on February 20 to the LHC against ATC's verdict, saying that the ATC had made the verdict in haste.

Zainab’s murderer files appeal against ATC’s death sentence

ATC handed four counts of death sentence to Imran, along with a fine, one life-term and a seven years of jail term. Imran also faces charges in the cases of at least seven other children, of which five were murdered. The accused had earlier confessed to all his crimes.

Imran was taken into custody on January 23, after his DNA matched the samples taken from Zainab’s body. His trial had been conducted on a regular basis the Central Jail, Kot Lakhpat.

The seven-year-old Zainab was raped and murdered after being abducted on January 4. Her body was found at a garbage dump site, five days after she went missing.
